Jamshedpur: Asia's Best Employer Brand Awards 2010 conferred the title 'CEO with HR Orientation' on HM Nerurkar, managing director, Tata Steel, at a recent ceremony held at Suntec, Singapore. Additionally, the 'HR Leadership Award' was conferred on Radhakrishnan Nair, chief human resource officer (CHRO), Tata Steel, which was received by Sujit Kumar Bhiuyan of Tata Steel on his behalf.

Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards was hosted by Employer Branding Institute, CMO Asia, with their strategic partner, CMO Council, in Singapore. The award has been bestowed on Mr Nerurkar and Mr Nair for having surpassed several levels of excellence and setting an example of being role models and exemplary leaders. Mr Nerurkar has been especially appreciated for his efforts in building Tata Steel as an institution through organisation development, leadership, innovation and change management approach and a supreme objective of building future leaders.

The Employer Branding Institute is a virtual organisation where senior leaders in HR connect with each other in cyberspace to share the best practices in employer branding. This organisation has therefore created a platform to celebrate the best in employer branding in about 59 Asian countries, including India.

The title 'CEO with HR Orientation' has been included this year. Some of the previous winners of similar titles include YV Verma, COO, LG Electronics India (2009-10), Arun Balakrishnan, chairman and managing director, HPCL (2008-09). Previous winners in the HR leaders category include Rahul Ghatak, vice president and head HR / TQM, CEAT (2009-10) and Prabir Jha, global head HR and Corporate Communication, Dr Reddy's Laboratories.

The attention and spotlight has been on India for quite some time now, for the growth opportunities that it offers. All the nominations have been researched by Employer Branding Institute and Stars of the Industry Group, through a five-stage fine combing process, involving live presentations, Q and A, and finalisations. The aim of the awards is to recognise the best employer brand, benchmarking talent and HR practices.

The Tata Steel group believes that people are its key assets and value creation for the company depends principally on their professional and personal wellbeing. Adhering to the adage “successful individuals create a successful team”, Tata Steel has always given priority to the people, encouraging them to take initiatives and look beyond the obvious. The organisation provides a fertile ground for the personal and individual growth of each member in its large and multicultural family.
